ABOUT

Nicole C. Russell (she/they) is a queer, chronically ill, interdisciplinary artist who works in photography, installation, sound, video, drawing & text. Her work investigates the flux between control and loss of control we experience in our daily lives, living under late stage capitalism and related bureaucratic systems. Utilizing quotidian objects from time clocks to paint chips to pills, Russell’s work raises questions around the body & the constructs of time, money & productivity, as well as related experiences around the perverse repetition of every day life.

NCR was born in Chicago, Illinois and lives & works in Los Angeles, California. She received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and her MFA from USC Roski School of Art. She’s trapped in a pinback button factory of her own making & sometimes teaches college photography & art.
